What is project management all about?

At heart, project management is about getting important things done.

"Project management" is done everywhere, every day - informally. Buying a new car is a kind of "project" requiring management. It's a process with a beginning and end - which can end in success or failure.

The same thing occurs in organisations that initiate projects - except the investments get a lot larger. This is where skilled project managers become essential.

The formal discipline of project management exists to ensure that organisations of all kinds can deliver their projects successfully - again and again.

Project managers are in demand globally because their unique skills enable organisations to take on large, complex, expensive projects - led by project delivery experts.

How can SEEK Learning's project management courses give me a career advantage?

In three important ways:

Gain globally recognised and respected certification

SEEK Learning's project management courses prepare you for certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading industry body for project managers.

PMI certification is recognised and respected the world over - and can open doors here and abroad.

In fact, once projects reach a certain size and complexity, many employers consider PMI certification a pre-requisite to even apply for the project manager's role.

Learn essential soft and hard skills

Project managers must master a range of essential soft and hard skills to deliver successful project outcomes.

SEEK Learning's project management courses teach you soft skills like:

Our courses also prepare you to use hard skills like:

Learn to deal with real-life scenarios

Through our project management courses, you'll learn to recognise and manage the kinds of scenarios project managers encounter every day.

You'll learn to manage challenges like avoiding "scope creep," keeping stakeholders on-side and performing resource levelling to ensure your team members are being utilised properly.

Do I need to have prior project management experience to become certified?

No. You can attain PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification with no prior project management experience.

CAPM certification is the ideal preparation to take on project coordinator or project scheduler roles, common stepping-stones to full-fledged project management.

Even with no prior experience, you can also attain Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist certification proving your expertise with Microsoft Project.

What's the difference between project management certification training and project management software training?

Project management certification training provides the full range of hard and soft skills you'll require to be a successful project manager.

Project management software training - for example, training in Microsoft Project - provides in-depth understanding of the essential "tools of the trade".

Generally longer and more in-depth than software training, project management certification training is the best way to learn the concepts and techniques that make project management such a vital skill to employers.

Of course, understanding industry-standard software applications like Microsoft Project is also essential.

That's why SEEK Learning offers tailored project management training packages, including both certification and software training. To learn more about these packages, contact a SEEK Learning consultant.

What are the career prospects for project managers?

Opportunities for project managers are diverse, multifaceted and global.

An enormous range of industries employ professional project managers. Jobs in project management range from entry-level roles like project coordinators; to specialists like business analysts; to leadership roles like project and program managers.

You can view the full range of project management roles advertised on SEEK.
