Who is This Course for?
This diploma is ideal if you're working or seeking a career in community services, providing services to clients in relation to mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues.
You'll develop skills in counselling, referral, advocacy and education or health promotion services.

Course Requirements
To gain entry into this course, you must either:
- be working or have recently been appointed to work in a community support mental health or AOD role and have a recognised higher education or vocational education qualification at Certificate IV level or above
OR
- have completed, after 2010, a Certificate IV in Mental Health or Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or related field
OR
- have completed a Certificate IV in Mental Health or Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs (or related field) before 2010 and have a supporting letter from your employer detailing your current work role within mental health or AOD
OR
- have sufficient relevant work experience and knowledge of the mental health or AOD sector
As part of the course assessment, you'll need to undertake supervised work placement for a minimum of 240 hours in the community services industry. Your work placement will need to be pre-approved by OTEN and completed within Australia.
Please be aware that you may be required to have police clearance before undertaking your work placement.
If you are unable to find work placement, you may be able to access and complete simulated workplace assessments online. You must contact your teacher prior to commencement if you choose to do this.

What Will I Learn?
You'll develop high-level specialist knowledge and skills in laws affecting clients and the range of services available to them, as well as health issues related to mental health and alcohol and drug use and misuse.
