Who is This Child Care Course for?
This TAFE course is ideal for those seeking a recognised qualification to work in the child care sector. The Diploma of Children's Services qualifies you to work in centre-based and family day care, and supervise other staff and volunteers.
In most states, it is the highest qualification required at director or service manager level.
Please note that due to legislative requirements, you need to be at least 18 years of age to gain employment in the child services industry.

What Will I Learn?
You'll develop the skills required to meet the intellectual, language, physical, social and emotional needs of children in care. Among other things, you'll learn how to:
- care for babies and children
- ensure children's health and safety
- foster and enhance children's development
- provide experiences to facilitate children's development
- work in partnership with families to care for children
- manage a community sector organisation
Child Care Course Requirements
To qualify for this course, you must have completed the Certificate III in Children's Services.
As part of the course assessment, you'll need to arrange work placement for a total of 300 hours. This placement will need to be pre-approved by OTEN. Please note that your work placement must be done in Australia due to Children's Services Regulations and the qualifications the workplace supervisors must hold.
You must also complete a Senior First Aid certificate in order to receive the Diploma of Children's Services. Contact a SEEK Learning consultant to find out more about these requirements.

Course Structure
There are 3 stages to be completed in this TAFE child care diploma course.
Stage 1:
- Foster physical development in early childhood
- Foster social development in early childhood
- Support emotional and psychological development in early childhood
- Fosters children's aesthetic and creative development
- Use music as a medium to enhance children's experience and development
- Organise experiences to facilitate and enhance children's development
- Implement and promote inclusive policies and practices
Stage 2:
- Foster cognitive development in early childhood
- Foster children's language and communication development
- Establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behavior
- Gather, interpret and use information about children
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children
- Work in partnership with families to provide appropriate care for children
Stage 3:
- Plan and implement inclusion of children with additional needs
- Design, implement and evaluate programs and care routines for children
- Manage children's services workplace practice to address regulations and quality assurance
- Manage a community sector organisation
- Undertake research activities
